Studio Biography

Cole’s Taxidermy was established in 1968, by David Cole as a part time hobby.  This studio is still at its original location in Excel, Alabama. David also worked fulltime at Alabama River Pulp Mill to support his wife Carol and their three sons Allen, Steve, and Michael.

By the time his sons were 9 or 10 they each developed an interest in the art of taxidermy. So, in 1985, David changed the name of the studio to Cole and Son’s Taxidermy. His sons were now a part of what he created.

David and Carol both stressed the importance of education to their sons. Allen, pursued a career in the United States Army and later received an associate degree in electronic engineering. Steve,  received a degree in electronic engineering at South East College in Mobile, Alabama.  He also just recently received a degree in Computer Aid Drafting at Jefferson Davis Community College.

Michael, received a degree in Computer Aid Drafting at South East

College in Mobile, Alabama.

In April of 2004 David retired and began working fulltime in his studio. And also helped Michael establish a second Coles Taxidermy studio in Milton, Florida.

David, and Steve handle the work in Alabama while Michael handles the work from Florida. Their turn around time on most mounts is 5 to 6 months. They each enjoy different areas of taxidermy David and Steve both specialize in the whitetail deer and other fur bearing mammals.

Michael specializes in all game heads and painting fish.

There is no job to big or too small for Cole’s Taxidermy.
